The Ajanta Caves are situated near Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. These are about 300 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BC to about 6th century AD. The caves include paintings which are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, figures of the Buddha and depictions of the Jataka tales.
