Zubin Mehta, western classical music conductor of Indian-Parsi origin, will be felicitated with the 2013 Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony today, according to a report by PTI.

Tagore Award is given in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of the Nobel Prize laureate Rabindranath Tagore (1861 – 1941) for cultural harmony.

The award carries an amount of Rs 1 crore, a citation in a scroll, a plaque as well as an exquisite traditional handicraft/handloom item.

A four-member jury — led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and comprising Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, Sushma Swaraj and former Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi — unanimously selected Mr. Zubin Mehta to be the second recipient of the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to cultural harmony, the report said.

The first recipient of the award was Pt. Ravi Shankar. He received the award in 2012 by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
