Nupur Aggarwal with Storytelling Made Easy

Storytelling Made Easy by Nupur Aggarwal is a delightful book which lives up to its title perfectly. It takes the reader on an engaging journey traversing the art, craft and science of storytelling.

Right in the earlier sections of the book itself Nupur gives the overview and the basics of storytelling and goes on to elaborate on the toolkit of a storyteller.

As a writer, though I only tell tales written by me, I found the section where Nupur discusses the fundamentals very useful. These include guidelines on how to open and close a story, working on story delivery, preparing the body for storytelling, keeping the environment free from distractions et al.

In the next segment she writes, “While telling a story, it is important for you to pack away your inhibitions. Allow yourself to act silly and explore your funny side…” Touche!

The main section of the book has 12 delectable folk tales (my favourites being – ‘The Child with a Long Name’ & the ‘Stone Soup’) with tips on how to perform them.

Nupur has done an awesome job and I believe her advice would be useful both for a dilettante as well as a virtuoso.

The book has been beautifully illustrated by Radheshyam Rout.

Nupur is a Nutritionist by education and a storyteller by passion. She performs personal tales and folktales and charms the audience in a number of surprising ways. She has delighted children and adults across age groups in lit fests, conferences, schools and libraries in India and abroad.
