‘A Tug of War’ offers too much of ‘gyaan’ that can get repetitive.

There are some books that enthrall you completely. There are some books that keep you hooked with their funny one-liners and sense of humor. A Tug of War is neither.
‘A Tug of War’ is the debut book by a young author – Yashika Nayyar. It is a collection of five short stories that represent the conflicts teenagers of today face. The short stories are written in a haphazard way. There is no proper storyline and characters are not well-etched out. In the story ‘I am the Youth of the Contemporaries’ the key incidents tumble out right at the outset and then the story hits a lull.
The book offers too much of ‘gyaan’ that you may or may not agree with. It’s more of a self-help book rather than a fiction or an anthology. Besides, poor editing slows down the pace of reading further.
But despite all these flaws, I would still appreciate the efforts of Yashika – she is a young writer who is still studying but has taken the initiative to write and publish a book. But to come out with a successful book that engages readers, one needs to equip oneself better. There is lot of scope for Yashika to grow as a writer and we wish her all the best.
