Abu Dhabi, the capital and the second largest city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has evolved as a terrific city that offers plenty of entertaining options for tourists. Beautiful architectural landmarks, parks, gardens; all make Abu Dhabi a great tourist attraction!
One of the examples of Abu Dhabi’s architectural marvels is the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Initiated by HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late president of the UAE also known as the father of the UAE; Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE and the eighth largest mosque in the world.
It is a religious place of worship as well as an architectural gem of the city with a capacity for 40,000 worshippers. Apart from being a religious place for Friday gathering Eid prayers, this grand mosque is also a center for learning and discovery. The grand mosque includes a library that consist of classic books dating back to 200 years on a wide range of subjects from Islamic art, calligraphy, science and more in different languages.
Opulence and magnificence radiates from its design which is a great fusion of Mughal, Persian, Arab and Moorish architecture. Want to have a look at the world’s largest hand knotted carpet? Head to its main prayer hall where lies this grand carpet as well as the grand 24 carat gold gilded chandelier.
The pure white and gold color of the mosque is pleasing to the eye and adds charm to its serene beauty. The reflective pools surrounding the mosque further make this breathtakingly beautiful mosque even more splendid!
