Earlier in his address, Ramendra elaborated on his cancer journey in which he had to endure 3 septic shocks, 4 major surgeries, several rounds of chemo & radiation and was in the ICU for 40 days. He described how the incredible support of his amazing family and his awesome friends helped conquer the dreaded scourge. He also spoke about some of the coping strategies he had internalised and practiced during his relentless battle with the Big ‘C’. These included pursuing a passion, investing in relationships, normalising, acceptance and taking humour seriously.
Coping With Cancer is a research-based book, which provides practical mechanisms to manage the Big ‘C’. Each concept carries an introductory note, supplemented by real life case studies, almost all of which are based on Indian examples. Apart from the accounts of celebrities like Irrfan Khan, Sonali Bendre, Manisha Koirala, Yuvraj Singh et al, the book also delves into the inspiring experiences of ordinary individuals and their caregivers who have battled the disease.
Written in simple language, every strategy is easy to internalise and practice. The thread running through the narrative is the writer’s personal experience of battling cancer in its most dreaded avatar and emerging victorious.
This compilation explores hands-on coping mechanisms, beyond medical paradigms, to battle the ’emperor of all maladies’ and is also a useful compendium for anyone who is coping with any other major crisis.
The event was seamlessly curated by Dr. Bharat Patodiya, Founder, Director & Chief Medical Oncologist, Pi Cancer Care, Hyderabad. The event had engaging discussions with some of the best minds in Gastroenterology and Pulmonology.
