Maitreyee B Chowdhury is a web columnist and a poet. Besides writing on cinema and issues related to women and the environment, she has also been featured in an anthology of contemporary Indian writing, ‘Celebrating India’.
Maitreyee is the author of three books:

‘Where Even the Present is Ancient: Benaras‘.

‘Uttam Kumar Suchitra Sen- Bengali Cinema’s First Couple’ is a book that tries to showcase the beautiful togetherness of tremendously popular Bengali screen idols, Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen.
The book is about their chemistry, both onscreen and off-screen, how it came about and what sustained it. The book also takes a look at the circumstances that brought the duo together and in the journey recounts the growth of Bengali cinema in general, its music, its stalwarts and its importance in the Indian film Industry. It is the first book in English about Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen.

‘Reflections on My India: An Indian Insight’ is a book of essays. Maitreyee, writes about Indian traditions and the simple philosophies and spiritualism that governs our lives on a day to day basis. The book, which was released in Germany, is directed towards a European audience who want to know more about Indian traditions. It is a book that helps the Indian youth understand their roots and traditions too.
Where Even the Present is Ancient: Benaras
‘Where Even the Present is Ancient: Benaras’ is a book of poems on the sensuality, love and mysticism that Benaras evokes. The book that tells the little stories that make us who we are. Maitreyee believes that Benaras resides in all of us Indians, in some beautiful often unknown way. She is the Sutradhar, in that she attempts to connect an India that many do not realize exists, and in that it is everybody’s story.
