Rani Rashmoni (1793 – 1861) celebrated Durga Puja at her residence traditionally, since 1790. Thakur Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa has worshiped here too.

The Durga Protima is in ‘Ekchala’, orange face and the costume is traditionally ‘sholar shaj’ (thermocol decoration).

Rani Rashmoni was a pillar of strength in the mid-nineteenth century. Her clashes with the British in India became household tales in her time.

Rani Rashmoni founded the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Kolkata. She remained closely associated with Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa after she appointed him as the priest of the temple.
