About Nilanjan Bhattacharya
Nilanjan Bhattacharya is a documentary filmmaker, artist, writer and a scavenger of knowledge from Kolkata, India. He started his career by assisting acclaimed filmmaker Tapan Sinha. As an independent filmmaker he took up documentary as his medium for creative expression, eventually expanding his practice to create art videos and installations. For the last fifteen years he has been exploring indigenous knowledge on biodiversity and food in India through his art. His works have been showcased at Mumbai International film Festival, Goteborg International Film Festival, Les Rencontres Internationale Paris, Wellcome Collection Gallery London, Experimenter Gallery Calcutta, European Kunsthalle, Frankfurter Kunstverein, and GRASSI Museum fürVölkerkunde Leipzig. He received the National Film Award of India for his documentaries Under This Sun (2005), and Johar Welcome To Our World (2010).
Nilanjan writes on food and Kolkata’s public culture. He currently lives between Leipzig and Kolkata.
