The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well displayed museums in Rajasthan with arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms.

Known as the “Sun City” because of the sunny weather it enjoys throughout the year, Jodhpur, is a travelers’ haven.

The second largest city in Rajasthan, Jodhpur is also known as the 'Blue City' because of the blue painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort.

Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha of the Rathore clan, Jodhpur became the capital of the state of Marwar after Mandore.

Dotted with palaces, forts, and temples; Jodhpur is a paradise for history buffs, and monuments lovers.

Jodhpur is well connected to major cities. Daily flights connect Jodhpur to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Udaipur. The airport is about 5 km from the city center.

By Rail
The Indian rail network connects Jodhpur to all major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Alwar, Agra, Lucknow, Allahabad, Indore, Varanasi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kanpur, Patiala and Chandigarh.

By Bus
Jodhpur can be reached by RSRTC buses (Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation) that connect the city to all major cities – Delhi (597 km), Jaipur (336 km), Jaisalmer (264 km), Bikaner (243km) and Udaipur (260 km).

Getting Around The City:

To travel in and around the city, you can take auto-rickshaws, tonga, and the bus. When taking an auto rickshaw, don't forget to negotiate the price. Tonga is a great way to explore the city like the old times.

Mehrangarh Fort: Mehrangarh Fort, the jewel of Jodhpur is the biggest tourist draw. Situated 400 feet above the city on a hill, Mehrangarh Fort or the Citadel of the Sun, is one of the largest forts in India.

Inside its strong and grand walls, lie many courtyards, museums and palaces that boast of intricate mirror work, carvings and marvelous architecture. Such is the grandness and magnificence of this fort is that Rudyard Kipling thought it to be “built by Titans and coloured by the morning sun.”

Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park: Located at the foot of the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park was created to restore the natural ecology of a desert land. Extending across 70 hectares, the park offers wide variety of foliage and plants from the Thar desert

Jaswant Thada: It is an elegant commemorative tomb built in honor of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy stunning views of the Mehrangarh Fort and the city.

Umaid Bhawan Palace: Get a glimpse of Rajputana royalty and style by visiting the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace museum. It showcases vintage watch collection, old photos of the Maharaja and his family and a vintage car collection.

Mandore Gardens: Situated 8 kilometers north of Jodhpur, Mandore Gardens houses an old fort, temples, museum, and Chhatris (cenotaphs). Though in ruins, it is a beautiful place that speaks of an era gone by. The amazing architecture of the monuments is worth watching here.

For shopping, head to Nai Sadak or Sardar Market where you can buy Bandhej sarees, Jootis (Rajasthani shoes), handicrafts, textile items and masala (spices) such as vanilla, saffron, cardamom and more.

Some of the shops where you can buy souvenirs and lovely art and crafts are National Handloom, Bishnoi Village Art, Via Bishnoi Village Craft, Suncity Spices and many more.

Rajasthan International folk festival: Held against the backdrop of the Mehrangarh Fort in October, the Rajasthan International folk festival brings together musicians and folk artists from India and all over the world to celebrate the rich traditional folk music and heritage of Indian music along with fusion of international artists.

Marwar Festival: Held in the month of September and October, Marwar festival celebrates the heroes of Rajasthan.

It offers an opportunity for visitors to enjoy folk music and dance of the Marwar region. Folk singers and artists sing songs that spoke of the glory of brave heroes and their battles. Other highlights of the fair include camel tattoo show and polo.

Jodhpur International Desert Kite Festival: Started just a few years back, this 3 day kite festival takes place around 14th January (Makar Sankranti) at the Polo Ground in Jodhpur. It brings kite flyers from all over the world to showcase their skills.

Jodhpur Nagaur Fair: Held during January and February, Nagaur festival is the 2nd biggest fair in India. This eight days festival is essentially a cattle fair where animals are decorated. Another attraction of the fair include Mirchi bazaar – the largest red-chilly market of India.
