Kathputli is a string puppet theatre, native to Rajasthan. This art originated thousand years ago and the Rajasthani tribes have been performing this art from the ancient times. Gradually it has become an eternal part of Rajasthani culture and tradition., Kathputli is a join of two rajasthani language words Kath meaning wood and Putli meaning a doll which has no life. Historically, these puppets were not only a source of entertainment, but also were the source of awareness of people of social problems faced by the culture, the country like dowry system, women's empowerment, illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, and cleanliness, and also showed ways of solving them.
