If you are looking for a tranquil hilly retreat that is free from the commercial humdrum and crowded Mall Roads of the typical hill stations, go for Lansdowne in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state.

Named after then Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne in 1887, Lansdowne still retains much of it proud British heritage and a close association with the defence forces of India, right from pre-independence era till now.

Developed as a centre for catering for the Recruits Training center of the Garhwal Rifles, Lansdowne serves as the command office of this famous regiment of the Indian army.

Thanks to the security and restrictions imposed by the armed forces, Lansdowne has mercifully saved itself from rampant commercial development, and has retained its quaint, scenic beauty and archaic British era buildings, hotels and churches that dot the place.
