Geeta Roy was well-versed in typical Bangla angiks of Palligeeti (folk) and Kirtan (devotional).

“Geeta (Roy) Dutt may have had the sketchiest of training, but she succeeded as a singer because she knew that playback singing is not so much about technique as it is about taking the listener along into the world of feelings,” writes Ganesh Anantharaman in his book Bollywood Melodies: A History of the Hindi Film Song.
