Shantaram’s Hindi-Marathi bilingual Aadmi /Manoos is rated among the best films made in the country in 1939. Its complex theme of a bond between a cop and a prostiture was sensitively scripted, and brilliantly directed. The film won a lot of critical acclaim for its realism and its poignant climax.
