Conch generally applies to large sea snails whose shells have a high spire and a noticeable circular canal. Conch shells can be used as wind instruments. Various species of large marine gastropod shells can be turned into “blowing shells”, or “Shankha”. The sound of the conch or “Shankha” is considered auspicious and the conch is blown in the rituals of worship in India.
