Jaisalmer: The Golden City

Jaisalmer-Rajasthan

Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest forts in the world, also known as Golden Fortress or Sonar Quila.

Jaisalmer Fort is situated in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. It was built in 1156 AD by the Bhati Rajput ruler Rao Jaisal. Jaisalmer means “the Hill Fort of Jaisal”.
Its massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion color during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, looking like a Golden Fort (Sonar Quila).
