Encourage your child to pursue a hobby. It need not be one in which he necessary has to excel – win medals and certificates. If he does then that would be the icing on the cake. Basically his hobby should be one in which he is interested, which helps him relax, gives him joy.
Today’s child faces relentless pressure on the academic front. In the area of extracurricular activities too there is constant demand on him to be the first among equals. His hobby should be one that he can take sanctuary in whenever he feels – it can be music, dancing, philately, gardening, karate, creative writing, et al.
And you as a parent should refrain from being judgmental. Let him pursue his interest the way he wants to. Who knows he may excel in it and his passion may become his calling card.
