On July 20, 1980, Uttam Kumar had given an extensive two-hour-long (recorded) interview to Ratnottama Sengupta, presumably his last press interview. The Mahanayak passed away on July 24, 1980.
As our tribute to the icon, we republish this interview which first appeared in print on August 22, 1980 in Screen.
