The IPL Quiz Book: It is Exactly Like Watching the IPL Live

October 3, 2021 | By

The kinds of questions asked to give us almost all the information we need about this world-famous tournament, says avid cricket buff Lalit Magazine in his review of The IPL Quiz Book. The book written by ace sports quizmasters Arinjay Ghosh and Aniket Mishra has been published by Blue Pencil.

Cricket is a very popular sport in India. People are crazy about this game. Although cricket is played only by a few countries around the globe, in India we hardly realise this fact. For us, cricket is the only game in the world and cricketers are treated like demigods. Cricket has a very long history and an interesting one too. Lots and lots of books have been written about the game, about the players and about the way cricket has changed over the years.

Test cricket has lost a great deal of its popularity, only the purists follow it now, particularly in India. Limited overs cricket has overtaken test cricket in terms of following and viewership. Even the fifty overs format is losing its earlier sheen. Twenty-Twenty cricket or T20, as it is known, is the order of the day. This format is loved by people of all the cricket playing nations. In India, most people don’t watch or follow any other format. Cricket for them means a twenty-twenty over game. The IPL has proved this beyond any reasonable doubt.

On the back cover of the book, we have a quote by Sachin Tendulkar which says: “The IPL has taken the game to virtually every house in the world”. Tendulkar’s words cannot be disputed at all. The IPL has taken the cricket playing world by storm. Not many books have been written about this tournament or its history and the common cricket fan is not aware of the facts and figures of the matches played in this tournament.

There are various ways of telling the story of this League and I must congratulate the young duo of Arinjay Ghosh and Aniket Mishra for having chosen the most interesting and exciting way of telling it. Quizzing is not just about information. Quizzing is a game by itself. It has all the thrill and suspense of a limited-overs game. Therefore, The IPL Quiz Book will appeal to one and all. Reading books can be boring at times but going through a quiz can never have a boring moment.

The writers have chosen a very unique way of writing this book. They have not just asked questions and given answers in the end, no, not for them the old school of writing a quiz book. They have very intelligently chosen a method that tells us the entire history of the IPL. I like the way they have divided each season into different parts. They start with The Story. Then comes The Powerplay, after that, they take you to the middle overs and last of all comes The slog. It is exactly like watching The IPL live.

A lot of research and hard work must have gone into framing the questions. The kinds of questions asked to give us almost all the information we need about this world-famous tournament. We get to know every fact, who bowled the first ball, who scored the first run, who took the first wicket, who scored the first century and so on. After finishing the book, I feel I know everything there is to know about this riveting tournament. Buy it, read it, digest it. Have a quiz contest among your friends. You will come to know not only about the superstars of the game but also about the achievements of some lesser-known players. I recommend this book to all cricket lovers, including the skeptics of the IPL.

By the way, let me make a candid confession, I was almost on the verge of giving the readers a glimpses of a few questions, but controlled myself as they would have acted as spoilers – and I believe, I am a sportsman, not a spoilsport!

So friends, buy your own book and play your own game!
