A very thoughtful and emotionally charged poem depicting the life of an autistic child, for the Autism Special Edition I of ‘Learning and Creativity’.
Their lives are better here…
Away from the hustle and bustle
Far away from the social taboos…
Concealed in their narrow spectrum.
The task seems to be difficult
To interact, to communicate with them,
To understand their heart, expressions
One requires to have a delicate attention.
In their sunshine, a black spot
Their mornings show such symptoms,
Special angels are they for special purpose
Special in our definition.
Reconciliation is a major war
To understand, to make them realize
They are one, like us, humans
Supreme’s sweetest creations.
Their lives are better here…
In the bubble of lesser interactions,
As they can be far apart
From the rat race, the usual commotion.
Who says they are disabled,
Those words that condemn a life?
We all have our own imperfections,
We all admire that imperfect life.
Their aura, their innocent smiles
In immature expressions that they carry,
Reminds us of our mewing lives
In laps and bibs, our final destination.
Let’s keep them alive in our tender arms,
Billet-douxes impregnated with care,
That come without any colourful diaper
Come out undistinguished, in nature.
Their lives are safer in their circles
Our very own naughty autistic angels
Deserve adulation of the seasons…
They deserve to adore earth’s creation.
