Udaipur also known as the City of Lakes is a city, in Rajasthan. Udaipur falls towards the west of Rajasthan, near Gujarat and is located 403 kms from Jaipur, 250 kms from Ahmedabad. Udaipur is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Era.
Udaipur was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the final capital of the erstwhile Mewar kingdom. The supreme valor of Rajput, Maharana Pratap ruled Mewar from Udaipur. Apart from its history, culture, and scenic locations, it is also known for its Rajput-era palaces. City Palace in Udaipur is one of the most beautiful and magnificent palaces in India. Various other palaces have been converted into luxury hotels to maintain them in their state of glory.
Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar in this city are considered some of the most beautiful lakes in the state. The summers are extremely hot in Udaipur, therefore, the best time to visit here is between October to March, when it is warm during the day and cold during the nights. Udaipur can also be considered as the stopover point to visit other beautiful places nearby like Chittorgarh, Mount Abu, and Ranakpur.
