The poem ‘My Poetry’ is framed by two sections that define what is not connected to poetry and has a poem in the poem that is its main beauty. It won a special prize in the Itinerant Creativity Awards, XXI Edition 2021: for Poetry in a Foreign Language. held in Italy.
My poetry is not about
going to see Modi with my new book
and making him hold a copy
and taking a pic of it
and putting it on FB
or Trump
or some great poet or writer
like Gulzar, Geoffrey Hill or K Satchidanandan
when I know they won’t read it
later
or appreciate it
but they will be kind to me at the time
people being polite and all
or some award or getting published in the New Yorker
or by some big foreign publisher, yet, like Penguin-Random House
or getting it put in bookstores across the world
knowing the right agents and distributors
appearing on TV and in newspapers
My poetry is real
It deals with the smell of your hair
in my memory
the smell of lemongrass
and with stained-glass windows
its colours
It deals with the texture of your skin
and the patterns on it engraved by your age
aging scars and stretchmarks of beauty
And with the taste of your lips
that reminds me of the lone red cherry on the top of cakes
or white, thin, cake-ice in the ones of my childhood
It is about your voice
that makes me aroused
and about the way you move
something in the way your hips roll
and how parts of you escape suddenly from your dress
and come to view
My poetry is real poetry
Not fake
My poetry is like that of Bukowski
And if it has no takers or retakes
I could not care less
My poetry reeks of my lust for it
and my love for life, and you
and all these matters more
to me
than any fake poet’s achievements
or their canned poems
that are praised overmuch these days.
oppure Trump
o qualche grande poeta o scrittore
come Gulzar, Geoffrey Hill o K Satchidanandan
e i suoi colori

A weird craving to get attached with some renowned personality or poet or some publisher or to see our poetry or book in the hands of some well known writers/poets should not be our motto to write poetry. Hence you articulated the hard core fact that we our poetry should be a muse of our own self, our own satisfaction of our soul, that please our mind, not to be recommended by some renowned ones, but to grow with© SONALI it’s own essence, which would be a bliss and pleasure of our mind.
KUDOS to you for writing such a powerful poem that conveys a Brilliant message!
🙏💙
