A historical trip to Jaipur via Samode Bagh

Jaipur – Hawa Mahal

Jaipur - Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal meaning “Palace of Winds” or “Palace of Breeze”, is a palace in Jaipur. It was built in 1798 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, designed in the form of the crown of Krishna, in red and pink sandstone. It has got a honeycomb structure which resembles a beehive, with 953 small windows.

The palace is situated on the main thoroughfare in the heart of Jaipur’s business centre. It forms part of the City Palace, and extends to the women’s chambers. The windows (jharokhas) are decorated with latticework which helped in natural air-conditioning of the palace.
